New steps forward in the implementation of the new Italian Cinema Law

New steps forward in the implementation of the new Italian Cinema Law

After a some months waiting period, the first law decree aimed at translating the general provisions of the new Italian Cinema Law (in force from January 1, 2017) into concrete guidelines for producer, distributors and investors, have been issued this July and are in force.

Law 220/2016 on “regulations in the cinema and audio-visual industry”, aimed at redefining the regulations related to the cinema and audio- visual industry for the purpose of revival and development of a strategic sector from a cultural, social and economic point of view, provides in particular the creation of the Consolidated Film and Audiovisual Fund, set up to support investments in films and audio-visual works (e.g. Tv Series) through tax incentives and automatic contributions to production, distribution and post-production companies, distributors distributing Italian films, Italian companies that work on foreign productions, as well as companies outside the sector that invest in Italian film and exhibitors that manage cinemas.

Instructions on procedures to be followed for the filing of the new applications in compliance with the new law decrees are available on the Mibact website (at www.cinema.beniculturali.it).
